I have tested their previous products extensively. The GC-2 takes that foundation and adds something genuinely useful for objective-based gameplay.

The Concept: Set It and Forget It

The GC-2 is a motion-activated mine system that accepts virtually any airsoft grenade. Unlike the RD-1, which requires manual remote detonation when you spot a target, the GC-2 uses infrared sensors to detect movement and trigger automatically.

The use cases are immediately obvious:

Comparison to RD-1

The RD-1 remains relevant for specific scenarios. Its smaller size makes it more concealable, and manual detonation provides precision that motion activation cannot match. However, the GC-2’s autonomous operation frees you to engage elsewhere while your mine handles perimeter security.

Size-wise, the GC-2 is noticeably larger—roughly twice the volume of the RD-1. This makes it harder to hide in tight spaces but improves stability and sensor coverage. The MOLLE mount option addresses the portability concern, allowing you to carry the mine on your kit and deploy it reactively during gameplay.

Practical Considerations

Battery life is rated at 7-12 hours of active operation—sufficient for full-day events. The USB charging port is protected by a rubber cover, though field charging would require a power bank.

The sensors are sensitive enough to catch deliberate movement but did not appear to trigger on wind-blown debris during testing. The 360-degree coverage from the elevated dual sensors means the mine does not need precise orientation—helpful when deploying quickly under pressure.

One limitation: the system requires line-of-sight or near-line-of-sight for the remote signal. Thick walls or significant terrain features may block activation. Testing your specific field’s RF environment before relying on the remote is advisable.

Value Assessment

At approximately £109 ($130 USD), the GC-2 with remote represents a meaningful investment. However, the cost compares favorably to multiple grenade purchases, and the reusability factor is significant. A single GC-2 deployed strategically can achieve kills that would require dozens of thrown grenades.

For players who run objective-focused roles—defenders, medics, support gunners—the GC-2 extends your effective presence beyond your physical position. That capability has genuine tactical value.

Final Thoughts

TacTeg continues to iterate thoughtfully on their designs. The GC-2 addresses the primary limitation of the RD-1—the requirement for manual activation—while maintaining the build quality and compatibility that made the original worth owning.

The motion detection works as advertised, the remote provides reliable activation at practical distances, and the grenade compatibility is genuinely universal. For objective-based gameplay, this is a force multiplier that changes how you approach defensive positions.
